Thomas Roszak, AIA
Principal

Thomas Roszak has been involved in architectural design and construction for over 27 years. His work includes a wide range of building types, including commercial and institutional projects, with a special concentration on urban residential architecture, for which he personally has overseen the design, development and construction of more than 2,000 units with a market value in excess of $2 billion. Mr. Roszak opened his first architecture, development and construction office in 1997. Soon after, he established Thomas Roszak Architecture, a firm dedicated to creative, innovative and environmentally effective design. His keen insight coupled with a unique design process allows him and his team to challenge preconceptions, resulting in innovative and technically advanced design solutions. Mr. Roszak also founded and currently leads the construction management company SteelGrass, an eco-design-build firm focused on new technology and sustainability.

Architectural Digest named Mr. Roszak one of its “World’s Top 20 Architects” in 2005. He was featured in Philip Jodidio's ARCHITECTURE NOW!, no. 4, published by Tashen in 2006. In2008, he received the American Institute of Architects’ prestigious National Honor Award. Recently, Thomas Roszak Architecture was chosen by Modern Luxury Interiors to be the “Best Architecture Firm in 2017.”

Kenneth Maruyama, AIA
Senior Project Architect

Kenneth is a Senior Architect with considerable design and technical experience, having specialized in both local and international markets.  Kenneth graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) for which he received numerous design awards, including the Book Prize for graduating seniors.   His professional experience ranges from single-family homes in Virginia and Florida, to large residential projects in Chicago, Arizona, and Minnesota while working for Optima, to mixed-use commercial projects throughout China and the Middle East.  Kenneth is an essential asset to the Roszak team, instilling his experience and design process into all aspects of the project. Prior to Thomas Roszak Architecture, Kenneth worked at Skidmore, Owings and Merrill’s (SOM) Chicago office as a senior technical architect.  While at SOM, he was involved in numerous high-profile and innovative projects including the UNC Chapel Hill Genomic Sciences Building, The Grand Hyatt Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), The CTF Tianjin (China), and most notably The Burj Khalifa (formerly Burj Dubai), where he served as an on-site architect working directly with both the Contractor and Client.  Kenneth’s enthusiasm for architecture and the design process allow him to engage challenges with rigor and logic, finding practical design solutions that are best for the project.  Kenneth would provide the Senior Project Architect role as a member of Roszak’s team throughout all phases of the project.

Mariano Barragan
Senior Project Architect

Since 1994, Mariano has been an important part of different organizations, designing and building workplaces and residences all over the Chicagoland area. Mariano has worked on a variety of commercial, residential, educational and mixed used projects and has coordinated design and construction efforts in all stages of a building project’s life. Mariano’s levels of responsibilities have included: project design, construction documentation, consultant and technical coordination, and construction administration. His watchful eye and constant efforts to keep ahead of innovations in architecture technology make him a valuable member of our team. Active in the Mexican-American community, he has co-led projects for not-for-profit organizations including a full renovation of Immaculate Conception Church for the Archdioceses of Chicago. He has gained extensive experience programming and planning with a diverse field of user groups. Mariano is a graduate of the Illinois Institute of Technology and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture.

Mike Moceri
Project Architect

Mike is a Project Architect with experience in residential design, hospitality design, and construction management.  His education includes a Bachelor of Architecture from the Illinois Institute of Technology during which he received several merit based awards, including the Sherwin Small Scholarship.  He also received a Master Degree in Integrated Building Delivery from the Illinois Institute of Technology.  Mike's professional experience includes single and multi-family residential projects, commercial tenant build outs, classroom repurposing, and hospitality renovations.  Most recently, Mike completed a technology litigation courtroom for the Kent College of Law in Chicago and a rebranding renovation to the InterContinental Hotel in Miami.  Mike plays a vital role in analyzing future development for TRA and its affiliated companies.  This work includes schematic design, budgeting and creating proformas to test the development's potential.

Paul Baulier
Project Architect

Paul is an Associate Architect with experience in residential design and construction management. His education includes a Bachelor of Architecture from the Illinois Institute of Technology during which he was one of the recipient of the Roche Travelling Studio scholarship. He also received a Master of Integrated Building Delivery from IIT.   Paul's professional experience started at a structural engineering firm. He worked at world renowned Thornton Tomasetti where he worked closely with engineers and helped coordinate structural and architectural designs.

Crystal Jeon
Associate Architect

Crystal is capable of bringing creative solutions to built environments. Her professional experience includes high-rise buildings, LEED projects, and interiors. Crystal received academic incentive scholarship and obtained her Bachelor of Interior Architecture degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has graduated with a Master’s degree from the College of Architecture at Illinois Institute of Technology. During her time as a student, the main focus has been mixed-use buildings with sustainable technologies which involve passive ventilation strategy and double-skin façades.

Kasia Szmajda
Accountant

Kasia’s education includes a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Northeastern Illinois University from where she graduated with High Honors.  She is a Licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the State of Illinois.  She has always been very excited about professional development and recently gained another certification – she became an Enrolled Agent enrolled to practice before the Internal Revenue Service.   She has been a long-time asset to the Roszak team using her extensive bookkeeping, managerial, HR, and administrative experience to full potential.  She served as project accountant on projects such as 1421 Sherman Avenue Residences, 433 N. Wells, 1210-1236 Chicago Avenue Residences, 1572 Maple Avenue Residences, Sienna, and other multi-family residential projects.  All these projects have presented the opportunity to work closely with other wonderful Roszak team members, but also with outside partners such as our legal counsel, bankers, tax accountants, and multiple vendors.  She has always been very enthusiastic and professional in developing and maintaining these valuable relationships.
